part time cheesemonger wanted starting now as we go into the Season, and then continuing on through the summer and beyond.
We have three part time mongers and would like to bring on one more. You must be able to work either Sunday or Saturday, as we are about to begin Sunday hours through May. Your schedule will likely be either a Saturday or a Sunday and then two weekdays starting at 8 am. You have to be a foodie. You have to be pleasant. You can’t complain for the sake of complaining. You have to, have to, have to, already love cheese. Not just brie. It’s okay if you don’t know have an encyclopedic knowledge of cheese, I get it. But you do have to have a willingness to learn everything there is about cheese both on and off the clock. We’ll give you a plan to learn to be the best turophile you can be.
Do you love cheese, dream about cheese, plan your vacations to include trips to the best cheese shops in the country,
or find that you have a reputation for starting every new conversation with “you know, this moment would be made better with Epoisses” or, “can you believe those Kehler brothers are coming out with a new cheese?”, then we’d like to talk to you. We’re looking to bring on a new member of our staff to do some cheese-mongering with us.
Here’s who you have to be – crazy passionate about cheese, but not the orange stuff made in a factory. You have to love food, but you can’t be a food snob. You have to love people, and want to treat our customers like royalty. You must not have any kind of attitude, entitlement issues, and limit the use of “like” (as in – “it’s like, really, like good”) to once a day. You can be a little quirky. Maybe you loved art history, or wrote poetry instead of handing in your algebra homework? Maybe you didn’t know where to fit in and you’re still looking for that place to thrive? Maybe you’re a hipster. You can have tattoos, but not ones that might scare our customers. You can also be a total geek nerd.
You must be clean. You must be organized. You must love to keep things clean and organized. You have to feel comfortable in your own skin. You need to be able to take directions easily, and cheerfully. And you must follow through. You must play well with others. You must be a good listener and not talk too much. You must want to talk just the right amount about cheese, small batch artisan products. You have to be flexible. You cannot be political on the job. You can’t be late, or have a history of calling in sick with stupid excuses. We’ve heard them all before. All of them. You have to be curious. Please don’t be annoying, surly, or needy. It goes without saying you have to be honest, and love to help people.
Here’s a bit more – We’re looking for someone who can lift up to 25 lbs. Someone who is energetic, diligent. You must be drug free. We’d like you to be proud of your appearance and want to come to work, all tidy and put together. We’re a stickler for food safety, so you have to be too. You have to be able to stand on your feet for hours at a time. It would be really good if you have not worked for three – six months in every restaurant or shop in town. You have to like being in the kitchen, or behind the counter. There’s free parking in the downtown parking garage. You’ll have a set schedule every week tailored to your and our needs. Experience in retail, and/or restaurants food service desirable. Former cheese experience would be excellent.
If this sounds like it’s way too much for you, we’re probably not a good fit.
We can promise you a respectful and safe workplace. We can offer you a nurturing environment where you can learn and grow.
We’re a small business, not a franchise. We’ll train you. We’ll find your talents. We are fair. Kind. Happy.
Making lots of money should not be your motivation for applying for this job. And we really were serious about being drug free.
Please email me (EMAIL ME ONLY – no calls) Please don’t stop by, we’re a small operation and I wear many hats all at once. I really would like you to send me an email and compell me to want to meet you for a sit down. Louise AT artisancheesecompany.com
